🍛 Easy & Customisable Jalfrezi Recipe – A Bold & Flavourful Dish
A classic Indian dish packed with vibrant bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, and aromatic spices. Perfect for a delicious and satisfying meal!

🛒 Ingredients
🍗 For the Jalfrezi:
- 1 kg chicken, boneless and cut into bite-sized pieces (or use lamb/vegetables)
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 bell peppers (any colour), thinly sliced
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 2 green chillies, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chilli powder (adjust to taste)
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- Salt to taste
- Cooking oil
- Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)
🥕 Vegetables (Optional):
- 2 cups mixed vegetables (such as bell peppers, carrots, peas, cauliflower, and beans), chopped
- 1 cup paneer, cubed (optional)
👨🍳 Instructions
🥣 1. Marinate the Chicken
- In a bowl, mix the chicken with half of the ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and salt.
- Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
🔥 2. Cook the Chicken
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add the marinated chicken and cook until golden brown.
- Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.
🧅 3. Prepare the Base
- In the same pan, add more oil if needed.
- Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add sliced onions and sauté until golden brown.
🌶️ 4. Add Aromatics
- Stir in the remaining ginger-garlic paste and chopped green chillies.
- Sauté for a couple of minutes until the raw smell disappears.
🥄 5. Add Spices
- Add coriander powder, cumin powder, and garam masala.
- Cook for a minute to release the flavours.
🫑 6. Add Vegetables
- Stir in the sliced bell peppers and cook until slightly tender.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook until soft, with oil separating from the masala.
🍗 7. Combine with Chicken
- Return the cooked chicken to the pan.
- Mix well to combine the chicken with the spices and vegetables.
🍲 8. Simmer
- Add salt to taste and let the curry simmer for 10–15 minutes.
- Allow the flavours to meld and the chicken to absorb the spices.
🌿 9. Garnish and Serve
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
- Serve hot with rice or naan.
