One of the best family meals out was at the end of May, during the school holidays, we took a short break in London. After a day of exploring the city, we found ourselves looking for a place to eat near our hotel. That’s when we stumbled upon a wonderful Indian restaurant called Indian City. It wasn’t flashy from the outside—a single-fronted building with an oldish wooden frame that gave it a dated appearance. But as the saying goes, “Don’t judge a book by its cover!”
The moment we stepped inside, the cozy and welcoming atmosphere immediately lifted our spirits. The warmth of the decor, combined with the friendly and helpful staff, made us feel right at home. From the start, we knew we were in for a good evening.
After browsing the there À la carte Menu menu, we decided to go for a few different dishes. We ordered a delicious Bengal fish bhuna, known for its rich spices and tender fish. I really loved this amazing dish, with each bite revealing layers of flavour that danced on our taste buds and reminded me of my time in Bangladesh. Alongside the fish bhuna we enjoyed the side dish Bombay Aloo—spiced potatoes that were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside—a true comfort food.
We also chose Saag Paneer another side dish, which featured creamy spinach and perfect paneer cubes which was delicious. The Tarka Dhal the finial side dish we ordered was another highlight, with its earthy lentils cooked to perfection and flavoured with fragrant spices of the tarka. To complement our dishes, we couldn’t resist ordering mouthwatering garlic naan and roti. The garlic naan was warm and buttery with wonderful aroma, while the roti was soft and perfectly cooked, great for scooping up all the delicious curry!
We decided to mix it up with rice, so we ordered both keema and boiled rice. The keema rice was fragrant and savoury, while the boiled rice was a simple yet satisfying addition to our meal. We asked keema rice not be made spicy as our eldest would be having most of this as it one of his favourite rice dish.
To wash it all down, I opted for a refreshing lemon and lime mojito, which was a perfect blend of tart and sweet, while my husband went for a classic orange juice. Our eldest son chose a fizzy coke, which paired perfectly with the spicy dishes which his not having.
Overall, our dining experience was fantastic. The combination of excellent food and attentive service made for a memorable evening. Our son also got complementary ice cream. As we left the restaurant, our hearts and stomachs were full, and we couldn’t help but reminisce about the delicious and scrumptious flavours we’d experienced together as a family. Dining out at this Indian restaurant in London was certainly a highlight of our trip, and we’re already looking forward to our next culinary adventure!
During our short break in London, we ate out quite a bit, in addition to enjoying meals at the hotel. This meal, however, stood out as one of the best experiences overall everything was just perfect.
If you ever find yourself near Blackfriars or St. Paul’s Cathedral, I highly recommend dropping by Indian City. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed! It’s a hidden gem that offers fantastic food and a friendly atmosphere—definitely worth a visit.
